In the article below, The Boston Area Rape Crisis Center's Executive Director talks about the harm in merely dismissing "locker room talk" and the dangerous implications that has on society and the perpetuation of rape culture.

Happy 2017!

Happy New Year!

Thank you to everyone who has supported us over these past few months. Moving into the new year we want to continue to grow & help even more survivors of sexual violence.

What are your new year resolutions?

We Can Do Better

Judge Aaron Persky has been cleared of any misconduct in the Stanford sexual assault case. The Commission on Judicial Performance "has concluded that there is not clear and convincing evidence of bias, abuse of authority, or other basis to conclude that Judge Persky engaged in judicial misconduct warranting discipline." This decision comes after the Judge handed down a six month sentence (of which only three months was served) to rapist Brock Turner because anything more than that would have a "severe impact" on him.

When there's no accountability for rapists or those who perpetuate rape culture we are completely minimizing sexual violence and dismissing survivors' experiences. We can do better. We need to do better.

New Massachusetts Law Supports Survivors

A crucial new law was enacted on behalf of survivors in Massachusetts recently. It mandates the storage of sexual assault evidence collection kits for 15 years, the statue of limitations for rape. Prior to this, kits were automatically stored for six months and it would be up to the survivor to decide whether or not to extend the storage. This new law takes that burden away from survivors.

The work doesn't end now, though. We need to take this momentum and continue to advocate for laws that support survivors.

Stop Making Excuses And Start Making Progress

A powerful statement from Emily Doe, the "Stanford survivor".

"When we make it a priority to avoid harming or violating another human being, and when we hold accountable those who do... then we are going somewhere."

It's time to stop making excuses and start making progress.
